The NSE IPO Is Priced: Band ₹1,700-1,785, ₹22,562 Crore, Opens September 17

The National Stock Exchange formally announced its IPO terms on September 11 — the single largest capital-markets event of the Indian year:

  • Price band: ₹1,700-1,785 per share, face value ₹1.
  • Issue size: 100% offer for sale of 12.64 crore shares — about ₹22,562 crore at the upper band (₹21,494 crore at the lower band), trimmed nearly 15% from the 14.89 crore shares in the June DRHP.
  • Timeline: anchor book September 16, subscription September 17-21, allotment September 22, listing around September 24.
  • Lot size 8 shares — ₹14,280 per lot at the top of the band. Retail gets 35%, QIBs 50%, NIIs the balance.
  • Implied market capitalisation around ₹4.4 lakh crore. It will be India's second-largest issue behind Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,870 crore, surpassing LIC's ₹21,000 crore.
  • Sellers include SBI (the largest), CPPIB, Aranda Investments, MS Strategic, New India Assurance and Bank of Baroda; Morgan Stanley cut its offer to 1.10 crore shares in the reduction. Twenty merchant bankers manage it.
  • Grey-market premium fell to about ₹191 from ₹285 a week ago — the OFS cut and weak secondary sentiment have cooled the grey market.

Record SIP Flows: ₹32,297 Crore in August, MF AUM at ₹87.08 Trillion

AMFI's August data, the strongest domestic-flow print of the calendar year:

  • SIP contributions hit a record ₹32,297 crore, crossing ₹32,000 crore for the first time — up 1.05% on July's ₹31,961 crore and 14% year-on-year.
  • SIP accounts reached 10.62 crore, with 12.57 lakh new folios added; the SIP stoppage ratio eased to 81.1%.
  • SIP AUM: ₹18.62 trillion, about 21.4% of total MF AUM. Industry AUM hit a record ₹87.08 trillion on net inflows of ₹41,354 crore.
  • Active equity inflows: ₹29,329 crore, up 19% month-on-month, led by small-caps (₹7,973 crore), mid-caps (₹6,989 crore) and flexi-caps (₹5,059 crore). Large-caps saw ₹1,147 crore of outflows.
  • Debt funds saw ₹8,127 crore of net redemptions after July's ₹1.87 lakh crore inflow.

This is the structural antidote to the FII volatility and rupee weakness of the past week: domestic money is arriving at a record pace into the exact market segments that fell hardest.

SEBI's Demat 2.0 Tokenised Bond Pilot Goes Live — REC, L&T and IIFL Finance Already In

SEBI launched the "Demat 2.0" pilot for tokenised corporate bonds on September 10: corporate bonds move onto a permissioned distributed ledger, with settlement through the RBI's wholesale central bank digital rupee and smart-contract servicing. REC, Larsen & Toubro and IIFL Finance have already raised ₹1,025 crore under the framework, and SEBI's stated ambition is to extend the architecture to other asset classes if it works. Investor protections are unchanged.

The strategic read: if Demat 2.0 scales, India is prototyping an integrated securities-settlement-servicing architecture — the same direction as the intra-BRICS payments discussion running in parallel at the summit.

Brent Above USD 100 Turns Oil-Marketing Margins Deeply Negative

The most concrete earnings-calculation from today's India file: with Brent averaging about USD 105 for September, oil-marketing margins are running at roughly ₹(-5) per litre on petrol and ₹(-23) per litre on diesel. That is the direct arithmetic consequence of the US-Iran war and Hormuz disruption passing into Indian fuel pricing, and the OMCs' discretion to reset prices is constrained because diesel is politically and CPI-sensitive.

Brent surged more than 8% this week to USD 104-107 — its highest close since May 19 — before slipping about 1.5-3% on September 11.

StockImpactReasonConfidence
IOC / BPCL / HINDPETRO / MRPL🔴 NegativeA ₹-5/litre petrol and ₹-23/litre diesel marketing margin is a direct gross-margin hit for the quarter; the sector cannot pass through without stoking inflationHigh
ONGC / OIL🟢 PositiveUpstream realisations rise with Brent, and the government has historically shared the windfall — the marginal rupee still lands on the upstream lineMedium
RELIANCE🟢 Positive⚠️ Inferred. Refining margins on a rising crude-and-diesel-crack complex are a tailwind to the O2C business, which is why RIL has diverged from the pure marketing namesMedium
